ATS traffic mods

In ATS – immersion is king. Suppose you don’t feel like a real truck driver at any particular moment. In that case, it’s worth going on Gamersmods and downloading a few free modifications for the American Truck Simulator game to make it more realistic and engaging. One of the features that have the strongest link with realism and immersion is traffic. Over time, you will notice that SCS Software only has included a limited number of unique NPC character cars and traffic participants. You do notice the repetition after ~100 hours in-game, and it does break immersion sometimes.
Besides, the base-game traffic is not very realistic. You don’t have traffic jams, and the AI cars’ behaviour can sometimes be strange, to say the least. What you can do is download ATS traffic mods that are great for when you’re looking to improve your gameplay without changing your own truck. Real traffic ATS mods will add more cars during rush hour and will make highway as well as inter-city and inter-state traffic a lot more realistic. You won’t have as many open roads in the city and traffic won’t come out of the blue to hit you when you’re turning left.
Furthermore, traffic mods for American Truck Simulator can add unique and real-world car models to the game. The generic cars that SCS Software has going around the map are usually close replicas, but not the real deal.

American truck simulator mods / Traffic

ATS’s traffic variety is well and all, but could it be more accurate? This mod makes a minor change, but it certainly makes the game more accurate.

I’ve sifted through thousands of Craigslist ads for each vehicle’s year, make, model, and, when applicable, trim, counted every individual vehicle, and factored it into each vehicle’s spawn ratio. For vehicles belonging to a specific department or company, I’ve taken a sample for each state, and factored what vehicles are present in that sample into each vehicle’s spawn ratio.

Resolving incompatibilities:
-You may have to place the mod beneath traffic packs.
-Place beneath Brutal Traffic (maintains in-class traffic variety while allowing Brutal Traffic’s density).
-Place beneath ATS Traffic Behaviour (maintains in-class variety while allowing Traffic Behaviour’s density).
-Place beneath Meatballs Traffic Density Mod (maintains in-class variety while allowing Traffic Density Mod’s density).
-Place above Realistic traffic (allows the spawn of modded traffic vehicles while overriding his edits to spawns).
-Place below Real Traffic Density (allows Traffic Density’s density, while keeping in class variety).
-Place above Island Map to ensure the mod takes effect.

Features include:
-Vastly decreased semi spawn.
-Vastly decreased police spawn.
-Vastly decreased bus spawn.
-Vehicles not sold in the United States no longer spawn.
-Vehicles unrealistic fleet vehicles no longer spawn (some fire trucks, 2012 CHP Charger, etc.).
-Outdated fleet vehicles no longer spawn (MCI MC-12, NHP Crown Victoria, etc.).
-As previously stated, every spawn ratio is grounded in empirical data, at least somewhat accurately portraying the car culture of each state. For example, California has a greater preponderance of electric vehicles, while other states have an increased number of pickups.

Supported maps:
-Island Map
-Montana Expansion

Bugs:
-Utah’s lack of variety and some vehicles being far too prolific has been largely been corrected, but some issues still remain.

Other notes:
-Compatible with all map mods, traffic packs, and DLCs, however, map mod traffic isn’t effected.
-Since traffic pack’s aren’t optimized for this mod, and it may cause issues with traffic spawning. This is especially true for Utah, where spawn ratios have been greatly altered (normal spawn ratios hover around 0.5-1.00, but I’ve had to multiply this by 100 for each vehicle) to combat measures hard-coded into the game.

3/21/21 changelog:
-Added Montana Expansion support
-Tweaked some vehicle spawn rates (street sweeper, Ford Transit, Isuzu NPR, Lincoln Town Car, Ford F-350, Ford F-650, there may have been some others)
-Tweaked overall spawn rates

2/22/21 changelog:
-Fixed semi spawn rates
-Tweaked some vehicle spawn rates for accuracy (Ford F-350, Lincoln Navigator, Ford Mustang GT, and Hyundai Santa Fe Sport)
-Tweaked overall spawn rates

2/15/21 changelog:
-Tweaked some vehicle spawn rates for accuracy (Ford Crown Victoria, Chevrolet City Express, Ram 2500, and perhaps some others)
-Tweaked overall spawn rates
-Tweaked truck spawn rates for increased comparability with modded trucks (Thanks to Cip)
-More or less fixed Utah. It’s still not the most compatible with traffic packs, but the lack of variety is certainly less noticeable
-Removed U-Haul F-650 from traffic for increased accuracy
-Tweaked Ford Transit spawn rates in accordance with the new liveries
-Removed PostEd van from traffic in accordance with the new liveries
-Added support for Island Map
-Added support for 1.40

ATS Real Emergency pack with beacon and personalized sounds

Please read carefully before using this mod:
– this mod is the result of 6 months of work and with extremely limited information from SCS about FMOD traffic sounds
– this mod has been the official reason for my initial ban on SCS forum, because it was a personal mod due to some files form other mods used in it
– this mod includes eventually files from GTM Emergency pack for which I give well-deserved credits although officially I did not receive a reply to my repetitive requests.

What is this mod?
– SCS Police and Emergency vehicles simply received 3 more variants, first with flares and 2nd with flares + sound, driving alongside the default vehicles. a 3rd variant is only meant to be for road events and can have flare and sound as well or just flares
– All current states are covered with specific sounds (including Colorado) and generic vehicles can also have a generic sound. all sounds uses in full advantage the FMOD improvements on sounds, including a fade in/out of the siren (badly requested in the pre-FMOD version of this mod)
– Unfortunately due to game limitations this mod had to include one modified essential file from my Real Traffic Density mod, therefore there is an unwanted dependency of my traffic mod and the Emergency pack (both .scs files must have higher priority than the traffic mod). if Real Traffic Density mod is not used, the Emergency pack will take over the density from my traffic mod, but with less density than with traffic density mod enabled. it can in theory work with another traffic density mod if Emergency pack has higher priority but functionality is not guaranteed
– Warning: this mod will only work in ATS 1.39 and WILL NOT BE UPDATED for 1.40 and further game versions because my game is permanently locked in 1.39, truly sorry for this. my mod is locked but the def file is partially unlocked for personal edits on country spawn_ratio

American truck simulator mods / Traffic

While SCS did a decent job with traffic vehicle colors, it seems they researched general manufacturer colors, but not the individual models. As a result, many colors are excluded, altered from their factory specification, or inaccurate to that specific vehicle. This mod aims to amend that.

This mod ensures the colors of each traffic vehicle are accurate to their real life counterpart. The colors are now largely based on brochures, research has been done into each model year’s brochure, taking trim and other factors into account. The change is subtle, you may not notice it, but it’s there nonetheless, making traffic just a little more realistic.

Please let me know of any incompatible mods, bugs, or suggestions you may have. I’d be best if you notify me through Discord. My Discord can be found here: Bc4VMxaCNe

Bugs:
-None that I’m aware of.

Incompatible mods:
-None that I’m aware of. This should be compatible with all traffic packs, it only modifies vehicle .sui files. Nonetheless, I suggest you give this mod priority over all others that alter traffic in any way.

Other notes:
-Several trucks, including all semis, have not been modified.
-The Ford S-Max and Mercedes wagon do not have accurate colors. Neither were sold in the US, so I just think of them as eyesores and aren’t worth the effort. If someone wants me to give these accurate colors, I’d be happy to.

Credits:
-SCS: Original files
-Various websites: Color data

Changelog 1.40, 2/17/21:
-Mod completely redone.
-All colors are now based on brochures. Each vehicle’s brochure has been researched individually, including each year of the vehicle’s production.
-Some colors repeat to reflect how common they are.
-Most, if not all, event vehicles are accounted for.

I couldn’t care less what you do with the mod. Feel free to edit, redistribute, claim you made it, whatever you want, I really don’t care, there’s no need to credit me.
