Need a helping hand on your farm? If your friends are currently not available to join you for a crossplay-session in Farming Simulator 22, you might want to hire a worker.

Since we showed you a screenshot a couple of months ago, you were asking about this ominous “AI worker” screen. Indeed, we were holding back the information since we were working on this feature until the last minute. Here’s a little preview, now.

Meet the semi-autonomous worker!

Via the new AI worker screen, you manage all your workers. It’s not just clicking a button anymore to let him overtake the task, you’re currently doing yourself (you still can let a worker overtake your current action, like cultivating, though). There’s more to it, now.

How does it work?
On the AI-Worker screen, click on any vehicle/machine and select “create job”. This allows you to select one of the following actions for your worker to carry out. Wherever you want to send him, you either choose a specific unloading station or set down a marker on the map.

“Go to” – drive a machine/vehicle to a specific destination
“Field Work” – carry out a task associated with the machine at the target location
“Deliver” – deliver crops to the selected unloading station (can be looped)
“Load & Deliver” load goods at one station, and deliver it to the next (can be looped)
If you select “looping”, the workers will continuously repeat the task – as long as there is something to do. If there is no more wheat in the silo to deliver to the bakery, he will stop.

Improving over time

We will continuously optimize the AI worker in the future, as the complex system does not only need to take into account the various new gameplay features of Farming Simulator 22, but the extensive modability of our game, too. We’ll do our best to improve the feature, and we’re already awaiting your feedback.

Expanding your farm can be quite expensive – especially when it comes to your fleet of vehicles. Sure, you could lease them and continuously pay a fee, or get a loan from the bank. Those are possibilities, although not the most efficient ones. Or, you pay the local dealer a frequent visit and check the machines on sale!

Agricultural machines for a discount

Over 400 machines and tools are available in Farming Simulator 22, and the more powerful and versatile they get, the more money they cost. If the machine of your dreams is out of your financial reach, you have to earn it. The used vehicle sale section of your local dealer might be a welcome shortcut.

There’s a rotating set of machines available for a discount. If you see the tractor of your dreams, for example, and have the cash already in your bank account, you should think quickly. Looking for a large tractor with 500 hp? It’s on sale for 50% off? It’s basically your birthday, right?

What a bargain! What’s the catch?

It might not surprise you, but buying used vehicles will have some tiny drawbacks you should keep in mind: Depending on the size of the discount, they might need a certain amount of repair, and their performance will be affected.

A used tractor will not be as powerful as its brand-new counterpart. You have to invest money again, and repair it. Also, a used vehicle, even when repaired, will wear off quicker again than any brand-new vehicle – increasing the upkeep.

Get a new paint job, too!

All that is not even accounting for the paintwork damage that comes with used vehicles: Repairing and keeping the varnish vibrant are two separate things, now! Even a fully repaired machine requires a new coating to look shiny again!

So, are used vehicles worth their money?
Sure! Even with all those tiny little drawbacks in mind – a good deal is still a good deal, and buying second-hand machinery might still save you time and money.

The broader working-width of your new but used cultivator, for example, compensates for the lower working-speed due to its condition without further repair. And, as soon as you get it back up to speed, you’ll get even more for the low amount of money you paid in the first place.

Good news for everyone playing on consoles. Whether you play on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, Xbox One or Xbox Series S/X: We increased the number of available slots. That means, you can have even more vehicles, tools and other items on your farm. A LOT more.

Wait, what are slots?
Every vehicle or tool, for example, uses a set amount of so-called slots. The limit of slots is defined by the console. Why just consoles, you ask? Well, as you know, every PC is different. The amount of items a PC can handle, is individual – but technically there is no limit if your PC is strong enough. On PC, slots are primarily handled via RAM.

It’s different for consoles, as you can’t upgrade them. Each respective console has a slot limit that defines, how many vehicles, tools, and other in-game items can be processed at a time.

More slots, less usage

With Farming Simulator 22 we tried to make everything more efficient when it comes to slots. Even on the older consoles from last generation.

First of all, there are more slots available in Farming Simulator 22 (compared to Farming Simulator 19), even on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Secondly, we didn’t just raise the amount of available slots. We reduced the slot usage of various items, too – that raises the amount of items your consoles can handle, even more. Like before, if you buy the same machine or tool more than once, every additional one will only require one slot.

Up to 300% more slots!

As you can see above, Farming Simulator 19 on “old gen” consoles had 1299 slots available. Farming Simulator 22 on the same consoles got a boost of more than 100%, resulting in 2749 slots on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

For current gen consoles, meaning PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series consoles, we boosted it up to 300% – meaning 5155 slots that are available on those platforms. But that’s not all!

Slot usage up to 70% more efficient!

The more efficient slot usage allows for even more available items on your farm. Let’s take a look at the CLAAS Axion 900 TT, for example. We reduced its slot usage by 70%. Instead of 40 slots in Farming Simulator 19, it uses only 12 in Farming Simulator 22.

We reduced the required slots for various vehicles and tools. The Fendt Vario, for example, uses around 40% less slots in Farming Simulator 22. Not all of them might benefit from a significant reduction of slot requirements, though – it depends on the machine.

Farming simulator 22 mods / FS22 News

Choo-choo – do you hear that? Oh boy, it’s the good-news-train, entering the railway station to unload some exciting announcements: Farming Simulator 22 is at the finishing line of development before it releases next month. But, that’s not the motherload of today’s news.

As you provided us with feedback over the last couple of weeks and months in response to our announcements and footage, our attentive community department steadily talked to our busy developers to implement various adjustments and improvements to the game.

Here are some changes we made in the last couple of weeks. Good thing, a month consists of at least 28 days, right? RIGHT? Yeah…

Changes to the seasonal length

When we first introduced seasonal cycles coming to Farming Simulator 22, a virtual year was supposed to consist of twelve days. Meaning, each day in-game would be the equivalent of a month. Our goal was, and still is, to find a balance of challenging and relaxing gameplay-mechanics that work for as many players as possible, regardless of their experience.

For a lot of you… seasoned farmers, the duration of a year wasn’t as appealing as we hoped, even though players will be able to decrease the speed of time in-game even further than before. The challenge we were now facing was to implement the option to customize the length of the seasons. Why is that a challenge?

In game development, there is a massive amount of dependencies with even the tiniest change. It’s literally the risk of a butterfly effect that sticks to everything. That’s especially true for seasonal length connected to various affected gameplay-mechanics that might break and need to be compatible – as we can’t release a game with potential errors produced by our mechanics that, in the worst case, corrupts save games.

Long story short: Longer seasons. You can increase the length of a month up to 28 days. Yes, each MONTH can consist of 28 days. Changes take effect after the current season is completed.

Changes to the graphics

While gameplay programmers focus on gameplay mechanics and work on the gameplay side during the whole course of development, our tech guys do the same on their end. Meaning, the graphics still evolve between showing the first screenshot or trailer and the release of the game. Of course, we also take your feedback under consideration until the last pixel is considered final.

Between the months-old game build we’ve shown at gamescom, for example, and the version we’re going to release in a few weeks, a lot of graphical aspects, and therefore the visual appearance, have changed. We got a lot of feedback on the aesthetics of Farming Simulator 22, and incorporated some changes while working on already planned improvements.

We improved the level of detail of foliage to guarantee more beautiful transitions between colors. We fine-tuned Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO) to create more natural shadows – resulting in more natural-looking surroundings. And, we modified the color grading to achieve an overall, more realistic and atmospheric feel.

Long story short: Improved various graphical aspects, looks nice.

Better sorghum

Sorghum, or milo, is an important crop, becoming even more important in recent years, in warm climates. That’s why it’s considered a welcome addition by our American players and a predestined crop to sow on our US-Midwestern map, Elmcreek. Of course, our more Mediterranean-inspired map Haut-Beyleron also benefits from having sorghum available to grow. As our sorghum farmers all around the world noticed, the process of harvesting sorghum wasn’t quite accurate in the early version of Farming Simulator 22.

Long straw cut short: Only the top of the fruit gets cut off when harvesting, now.

We hope you like our recent changes to Farming Simulator 22. Thank you for your feedback! We also hope you are as excited about the launch in a couple of weeks as we are. Also, there’s more news coming up. Stay tuned!
